DATE: March 16, 2002 MALAMA 'AINA COMMUNITY CLEANUP DAY Big Island Mayor Harry Kim has declared Saturday, March 16th as Malama 'Aina Community Cleanup Day for the Island, including all of East Hawaii (Hilo) and West Hawaii (Kona), north and south. Organizations, businesses, service groups, and individuals island-wide will join in to pick up trash, weed, spruce up, prune, and make our island home clean, green, and beautiful. Kona Outdoor Circle, a nonprofit organization active in Kona since 1948, will spearhead the event and provide trashbags and assistance. Locals, visitors, all are welcome! DATE: March 16-30, 2002 BIG ISLAND WOODTURNERS DISPLAY The Woodturners Display of Turned Wood Art will be held at the Wailoa Center in Hilo. The show includes a variety of large, small, and artistic pieces made from exotic tropical woods. A special display will show vessels made from some of the many fruit trees grown in Hawaii. A woodturning technique demonstration is scheduled for Saturday, March 23rd from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. On March 30th, the woodturners host a "Meet the Artist" closing reception and will be available for discussions with the public. The Wailoa Center is located on Piopio Street. DATE: March 24, 2002 "MUSIC PRESENT PERFECT" 2002 The Kona Association for the Performing Arts proudly presents the Kona Symphony Orchestra. The concert will feature music of our time that appeals to young and old alike. The concert takes place at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu at 3:00pm. Tickets are $20. DATE: March 25-30, 2002 SPRING BREAK THEATRE WORKSHOP A theatre workshop for 8 to 12 year olds is being offered at the Aloha Theatre/ KAPA theatre loft in Kainaliu, Kona, during spring break, daily from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Cost is $125 (scholarships available).
