DATE: July 4, 2002 40TH PARKER RANCH FOURTH OF JULY HORSE RACES AND RODEO This Independence Day tradition includes action-packed rodeo events, horseracing, food and more at Parker Ranch in Waimea. Parker Ranch paniolo (Hawaiian cowboys) are joined by other Big Island paniolo for a corral of traditional rodeo events, including relay horse races, team sorting, double mugging, dally team roping and more. DATE: July 20-21, 2002 MOONLIGHT MADNESS/RELAY FOR LIFE Teams of 10 to 20 or more will take turns walking, running or strolling around a designated area between 6 pm, July 20th, and 6 am, July 21st, at Francis Wong Stadium, Hilo, to benefit the American Cancer Society. Team members will camp out during the 12 overnight hours, enjoying food, music and camaraderie. DATE: July 27, 2002 20TH ANNUAL KILAUEA VOLCANO WILDERNESS RUNS The Kilauea Volcano Wilderness Runs is sponsored by the Volcano Art Center and is held at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Over 1,000 runners participate in four events; the grueling 26.2 marathon, called the world's toughest measured marathon; the 10 mile Rim Run; the 5 mile Caldera Run and the 5 mile non-competitive Kilauea Caldera Walk.
