DATE: Thru April 20 thru 26, 2003 THE MERRIE MONARCH FESTIVAL A week-long fesitval of cultural events including Hawaii's most prestigious hula competition at Edith Kanaka`ole Stadium. The festival begins with a Ho`olaule'a on Moku Ola (Coconut Island) on Easter Sunday in Hilo from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with lots of music, food and fun. On Wednesday there is a free hula exhibition night at the stadium that begins at 6:30 pm.; Thursday is the solo Miss Aloha Hula competition; Friday & Saturday are the group Kahiko (ancient) and Auana (modern) hula competitions. A grand parade winds through Hilo-town on Saturday morning. Requests for tickets for the 2002 festival will be accepted after December 26, 2001. Dorothy Thompson, 808/935-9168

DATE: April 12-13, 2002 PUA PLANTASIA Kona Outdoor Circle's major annual fundraiser will be held at the Ohana Keauhou Beach Resort this year. Friday evening, a gala dinner will be served in the ballroom, with no-host cocktails on the lanai and around the back lawn with local-style Hawaiian entertainment included, along with live and silent auctions. On Saturday, free to the public, more than 25 vendors from around the island will sell plants and plant-related items. Donated plants will also be for sale, as well as t-shirts, jams, jellies & chutneys, and home-baked goodies. Educational seminars and entertainment on the hotel lawn. Funds raised will be used to support the organization's extensive planting, education and beautification efforts throughout West Hawaii. For more info., call 329-7286.

DATE: April 13-14, 2002 SPRING CHORAL CONCERT The Kona Association for the Performing Arts proudly presents its popular annual Spring Choral Concert. The concert features the Kona Community Chorus and Kona Symphony Orchestra presenting the stunningly beautiful Requiem by Gabriel Faure. Also featured will be Cantique de Jean Racine by Faure. DATE: April 14, 2002 PETWALK 2002 A fun-filled day for the whole family, canine members included! Bring your four-legged walking buddy and enjoy an easy walk followed by games, contests & prizes. DATE: April 19-21, 2002 HILO ORCHID SHOW AND SALE The Golden Anniversary of the Hilo Orchid Society Show and Sale. Held in the Edith Kanaka'ole Stadium, Hilo.
