Waima Valley Park is located in the Waimea Valley, on the north shore of Oahu, between the town of Haleiwa and Sunset Beach. The park has had several owners, operators, and names over the years:
Waimea Valley Timeline 1970's - Waimea Valley Park Waimea Valley Park first opened to the public in 1974, on land owned by the Bishop Corporation. 1990's - Waimea Valley Adventure Park When German-born Christian Wolffer assumed a majority ownership of Waimea Falls Park and Sea Life Park in the 1990's, he changed the name of the park to "Waimea Valley Adventure Park". He turned Waimea Park into a venue for adventure activities such as ATV rides, paintball, mountain biking, cliff diving, and horseback riding. 2003 - Waimea Valley Audubon Center Christian Wolffer filed for bankruptcy protection in 2001 and after a couple of years of legal wrangling between Wolffer and and Honolulu County, the National Audubon Society assumed management of the park in 2003. At that time the park was renamed the Waimea Valley Audubon Center. 2007 - Waimea Valley Park In January of 2007 the Hawaii State office of Hawaiian Affairs took over managing the park. The park was again given its original name, Waimea Valley Park. ________________________ More information: Waimea Valley Park 59-864 Kamehameha Highway Northshore, Oahu, Hawaii Phone: 808-638-7766 Web Site: WaimeaValley.com ________________________ - Kathie |
