I have several favorite hotels in Waikiki, and while some of them would never be considered budget options, a few of my favorites are among the least expensive hotels in Hawaii. Here are some of the best places to stay in Waikiki if you'd rather spend your Hawaii vacation dollars on activities and attractions instead of your hotel room. Most of the units at these hotels have either full kitchens or kitchenettes so if you wish, you can cook for yourself and save money on food too. I only included apartment hotels with at least a few units priced at less then $100 per day.

Some of the Royal Grove's most loyal customers have been visiting annually for 30 or 40 years. Note also that in most cases, you get what you pay for, and while you should expect clean and comfortable accommodations at any hotel, don't expect recently renovated rooms or fabulous views if you are paying $70 per night. And if you select the least expensive room at any hotel, you are going to get their worst room. It might (or might not) still be a nice room, but it will definitely be the worst or smallest or least luxurious room at that hotel, at least in somebody's opinion. On the plus side... all of the above hotels are located only a short walk away from some of Waikiki's most beautiful beaches. The first two are located only two short blocks from Kuhio Beach and the Kai Aloha is not far from the widest beach in Waikiki, Duke Kahanamoku Beach. I've never stayed at the Kai Aloha, but I have stayed quite a few times at both the Royal Grove and the Waikiki Prince. I love both of those hotels, the Waikiki Prince because of its friendly staff, it's location 2 short blocks from the beach, and its recently renovated rooms. I love the Royal Grove for its friendly staff, funky 1960's Hawaiiana atmosphere, courtyard swimming pool, weekly music jam sessions, location 2 short blocks from the beach, and the wonderful family who runs it. The rooms at the Royal Grove are basic, it's true, but it's still a special place, beloved by many. But you need to plan ahead to stay there because it's always full. - Kathie _____________________________ |
