EVENT: 10th Ironman World Championship Triathlon

DESCRIPTION:
A $100,000 prize purse for professional athletes was
available in 1986 which was donated anonymously.
Also in 1986, a new international qualifying event
was added: Ironman Canada in Penticton, British Columbia.
Dave Scott finished the Ironman Hawaii
first overall in 1986, finishing 22 minutes
faster than the previously set event record.
Patricia Puntous, of Canada finished first among women
but was disqualified due to a bike drafting infraction.
Paula Newby-Fraser of Zimbabwe was awarded the female
Ironman title with a time of 9 hours, 49 minutes and 14 seconds,
a new women's course record.
