LOCATION: Kailua-Kona, Hawaii Island

DESCRIPTION: The Ironman Triathlon became international in 1985 with two events added: Ironman New Zealand and Ironman Japan. Twenty-six year old Joanne Ernst of Palo Alto, Caliornia finished first among women with a time of 10 hours, 25 minutes and 22 second.
