EVENT: 5th Ironman World Championship Triathlon
DATE: February 6, 1982
LOCATION: Kailua-Kona, West Hawaii Island, Hawaii
DESCRIPTION: The February 1982 race included one of the most iconic moments in sports, Julie Moss being overtaken by Kathleen McCartney 10 yards rom the finish line, and Julie finishing crawling on all-fours 29 second later. That moment was broadcast ABC's Wide World of Sports. The overall winner was Scott Tinley, who finished ahead of Dave Scott.

October 1982

EVENT: 6th Ironman World Championship Triathlon
DATE: October 9, 1982
LOCATION: Kailua-Kona, West Hawaii Island, Hawaii
DESCRIPTION: Two Ironman Triathlons were held 1982 because a decision was made to move the event to October to allow athletes living in cold climate areas to train over the summer. Dave Scott finished first, giving him his second Ironman championship title.
